Squash scoring: the rules and a free score keeper
Squash uses point-a-rally scoring: every rally scores a point, whoever served. It is simple to follow, but the marker still has to call the score, track the server and the service box, and keep the game count. Our free squash scorer does that on a phone outside the court.

Points, games and matches
- Each game is played to 11 points (PAR-11).
- At 10–all the game continues until one player leads by two points, for example 12–10.
- Matches are usually best of five games (first to three). Club leagues and juniors often play best of three.
- Some leagues and doubles squash use PAR-15. You can choose 15 points in the app.
- There are up to 2 minutes between games.
Serving and the service boxes
- The spin of a racket decides who serves first.
- At the start of each game, and every time the serve changes hands, the server chooses which service box to serve from.
- While the server keeps winning rallies, they serve from alternate boxes.
- When the receiver wins a rally, they score the point and become the server.
- The winner of a game serves first in the next game.
The app assumes the new server starts in the right box. Tap Swap service box if they choose the left. After that it alternates automatically.
Lets and strokes
When a player is obstructed, the referee awards a let, a stroke or no let. A let means the rally is replayed and no point is scored, so don't tap anything in the app. A stroke awards the rally to the obstructed player, so tap their side.
Calling the score
The marker calls the server's score first: "5–3" means the server has 5. The app shows "Game ball" or "Match ball" when a player needs one more point, just like a marker would call it.
How to use the squash scorer
- Enter both names, choose best of three or five and the points per game.
- Select who won the spin. They serve first.
- Tap the player who wins each rally. The server, box, game and match balls update automatically.
- The finished match is saved under My results and can be shared.
